Platform: Caitlin’s Closet
“Life isn’t measured by the number of breaths we take, but by moments that take our breath away.” Winning Miss America’s Outstanding Teen was one of those moments. My year as the 3rd MAOT completely exceeded my expectations. Traveling, speaking and performing around the country was a huge blessing and honor. With the help of my MAOT sisters, I was able to launch Caitlin’s Closet (www.caitlinscloset.org) as a national organization. The scholarship I was awarded allowed me to attend the school of my dreams, The University of Alabama, where I graduated this last May with a Major in Dance and a Minor in Computing Technology and Applications. During my time in college, I was active in my sorority Phi Mu’s philanthropy, Children’s Miracle Network, was accepted on the University’s Crimson Cabaret Dance Team, was chosen as a Crimson Belle for football recruitment, was a member of Alabama Repertory Dance Theater, and was selected to perform at Dance Alabama. I continued to develop CC and began to compete for the title of Miss Alabama, representing the University of Alabama my first year. Last June, I was crowned Miss Alabama and was able to live a life long dream of competing on the Miss America stage, placing in the top ten. One of the highlights of my Miss America experience was being awarded the Quality of Life award, through my work with CC. We are planning to launch another national dress drive this spring. This June, I will be heading to NYC to obtain a master’s degree in Non-profit Management, continue my dance education at Broadway Dance Center, and perform on Broadway. I have been forever changed by this organization. Happy 10 years MAOT and cheers to 10 more!
